Fraidpur district of Bangladesh

Short brief history of Faridpur district of Bangladesh

Faridpur  is a district in central Bangladesh. It is a part of the Dhaka Division. In 1765 the English took over the financial administration of Faridpur, together with the rest of Bangal. In 1790 they gave the collectors of taxes magisterial authority, as part of the criminal administration of the country. In 1793 the collectors were relieved of their magisterial duties. Separate officers were appointed who united Judicial and Magisterial power together. The greater portion of Faridpur was then comprised within Dacca Jalalpur.
The original district stretched out across central Bengal, comprising what is, today, the Greater Faridpur region. A politically important district during the British Raj, Faridpur became a sub-division of Dhaka Division after the creation of Pakistan in 1947.
In 1971 Bangladesh became independent. In 1984, with the Decentralization Program of the Bangladesh government, Faridpur district was broken into five separate districts: Rajbari, Gopalgonj, Madaripur, Shariatpur and Faridpur.

Dhaka capital of Bangladesh

Short brief history of Dhaka capital of Bangladesh

The Old City of Dhaka was the Mughal capital of Bengal in the 17th-century. It was named in honour of Emperor Jahangir. The city flourished as a centre of the worldwide muslin trade and attracted merchants from across the world. The modern city developed during the British Raj in the 19th-century and was dominated by the Nawabs of Dhaka. After the Partition of British India in 1947, Dhaka became the administrative capital of East Pakistan
The British East India Company in 1765 gained the right to collect revenue (Diwani right) on behalf of the Mughal emperor. East India company became the imperial tax collector. As company's influence grew, East India Company later took on governing in 1793 when the Nawabs of Bengal were forced to relinquish all their authority over Bengal, Bihar and Odisha, and the city passed on to total control of East India company. The city's population shrank dramatically during this period as the prominence of Calcutta rose, but substantive development and modernisation eventually followed. A modern civic water supply system was introduced in 1874 and electricity supply launched in 1878. The Dhaka Cantonment was established near the city, serving as a base for British and Bengali soldiers.
