Short brief of Sukkur, Sindh
Sukkur city has been very important strategic centre and trading route from reign of Musikanos. The Rai Dynasty built a huge temple of Shiva in 711 CE, the Arabs invaded Sindh led by 17 years old Muhammad Bin Qasim. Mughals and many semi autonomous tribes ruled over Sukkur. In 1843 the British defeated the Talpures at the battles of Miani and Dubbo, Hyderabad. Sukkur along with the rest of Sindh, was under British rule untill the independence of Pakistan in 1947.
Sukkur Barrage built under the British Raj on the Indus river and Barrage has 66 Gates. Government of Pakistan initated a rehabilitation project to revitalize its water storage capacity and distribution efficiency in 2004.
Sukkur is a hub of small and larg scale industries. Sukkur had a larg fertile and cultivable land area untill a few decades, now its Agricultural productivity has been reduced. Sukkur city is historical and very atrective.
